Home in Texas

We decided to return to Crosby, Texas for a few days to check on the house since a storm hit close.  We found no damage and plan to get back on the road to Rhode Island next week to catch the Nor X Noreast caravan.  We will start posting again when we get on the road.

Halstead, Kansas

Well, here we are in Kansas and guess what, 98 degrees when we made it to our campgrounds.  We are staying at Spring Lake RV Resort which is just a few miles West of Halstead, Kansas.  We have stayed here before and I would recommend it if you are ever in the area.

We visited with Dorma’s sister today who is in Inman, Kansas.  Most of her sister’s family live in the general area.  While on the way back to the camp, we ran on to a Cushman ladies motorcycle gang.  Actually they were having a meeting at the Hutchison, Kansas fairgrounds.  The CCOA (Cushman Club of America) is a group that is interested in preserving the Cushman motor cycle.  Here is a few pictures.

Wet Mountain Valley, Colorado

Many thanks to Pat and Barbara who treated us to some great views from their mountain home and Barbara’s cooking which is nothing short of five star. We were able to spend two days visiting with them before moving on to Kansas.  The weather at this altitude is great and requires at least long sleeves during the day and more in late evening.  I don’t think Kansas will be this cool!  We also made some new Airstream friends.  Mike and Megan live close to Pat and Barbara and are members of the Airstream Vintage Club and has a beautifully restored Airstream trailer.

Bishop Castle, Wetmore, CO
Just down the road from Pat and Barbara is Bishop Castle.
Directions: I-25, turn west at highway 165 going northeast through Colorado City and Rye approximately 27 miles to Bishop Castle.  For 40 years, Jim Bishop has been building a castle on a mountainside in central Colorado. Every year since 1969, Bishop has gathered and set over 1000 tons of rock to create this stone and iron fortress in the middle of nowhere.

Leaving Moab, Utah - Destination Rye, Colorado

Check out the next three photos.  The Colorado river which runs around Moab was rising due to snow melt.  Our campground was in a low area and you can see the water rising close to the campground.  This was a tent area and several tents had to move during the night.

Quite a change in scenery.  Good to see some green mountains.  We drove US-50 and crossed Monarch pass at 11,300' and 56 degrees.

No, this picture is not tilted.  This was a several mile 8 to 10 percent grade.

Still snow on the mountains.

Camped near Salida, Colorado tonight.

On the Road Again

From here we plan to travel to the Nor X Noreast caravan which begins in Rhode Island.  We plan to stop by some friend house in Southern Colorado and probably go to Eastern Oklahoma for a few days.

We will keep posting.

End of Caravan Banquet - Moab Utah

Well, this is the end of a fifty day caravan and as usual it ends with a banquet, a program and good byes to some good friends that you have made during the caravan.  Stories were told, poems read, certificates issued and some fun poked at some good natured caravaners.  The food was great, the program fun and good buys exchanged.  A good ending to a great caravan.

Our banquet room's walls were windows facing west. Photos are not great but you get the idea.
Jay checking out the slide show on one of three PC's.  Everyone shared photos and Bill Miller developed a slide show that every one enjoyed.
Two of our caravan leaders Winston & Carol Montague
Two more of our caravan leaders Jay & Elna Thompson

A lot of planning goes into planning and leading one of these caravans.
A job well done.

Views from the patio outside our banquet room.  This house was built by a millionaire who made his money from uranium prospecting and mining.  He went broke after the IRS finished with him 20 years later.  The house was purchased and turned in to the Sunset Grill.
